Trump admin asks Supreme Court to restart South Sudan deportations

Between the lines: The request to the Supreme Court on Tuesday is the Trump administration's latest attempt to fight federal courts placing limits on its sweeping attempts to deport immigrants.

• Notably, the administration skipped appealing to the First Circuit and went straight to the Supreme Court.

Context: Immigration attorneys accused the Trump administration of deporting immigrants from Myanmar and Vietnam to South Sudan in violation of a court order Murphy issued in April.

• The judge had already ruled that sending undocumented immigrants to countries they're not citizens of would "clearly violate" an earlier order against sending people to third countries.

• Murphy found last week that the government did not give enough time for eight immigrants from various nationalities to contest their removal before they were put on a plane to South Sudan, ruling that the government's actions "were unquestionably in violation" of the court's order."
• The Trump administration in its Tuesday filing argued that "it typically takes 'minutes,' not weeks, for an alien to express a fear of
  being tortured in a country."
