Trump says he might have "good news" on Iran deal this week

• Trump's remarks suggest that sticking point could be resolved soon following the fifth round of talks in Rome on Friday.
• Israel has been making preparations to swiftly strike Iran's nuclear sites if the talks collapse.

What he is saying: "We had some very good talks with Iran and let's see what happens, but I think we could have some good news on the Iran front," Trump told reporters on Sunday before boarding Air Force One.

• Trump said the talks in Rome achieved "real and serious progress" and suggested more might come in the next two days.
• "I have a feeling I might be telling you something good. We've had some real progress, serious progress. ... I would love to see no bombs dropped and a lot of people dead. I really would like to see that happen. And I think there's a good chance that it could happen," he said.

Driving the news: White House envoy Steve Witkoff met Friday Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday in Rome for the latest round of talks.

• "The talks continue to be constructive — we made further progress, but there is still work to be done," a U.S. official said after the talks.
