Trump admin asks Supreme Court permission to resume Venezuelan deportations

Context: The 176 migrants were shielded from deportation in April when the Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act.

• The court in early April temporarily allowed the administration to use the wartime law.

Driving the news: Solicitor general John Sauer said in the Monday filing that 23 detainees in April barricaded the entrance doors of their housing units and blocked surveillance cameras.

• They threatened to take hostages and harm Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers, Sauer said in the filing.
• "This court should not exercise its equitable discretion to prolong the detention and block the removal of detainees who have been endangering others while in detention," Sauer wrote.

Zoom in: The detainees were moved from the Bluebonnet Detention Facility in Texas to another facility within the Northern District of Texas.

• Sauer wrote that the migrants "have received adequate notice and opportunity to pursue habeas petitions" to contest their removals.
