Trump naming his former defense attorney as acting Librarian of Congress

Context: Trump recently ousted former Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden as part of his purge of employees he believes promote diversity initiatives or oppose his policies.

• Hayden was the first woman and Black American to hold the position.
• The library promoted works and collections from people of color under Hayden's nearly decade-long tenure, which was set to expire next year.

Zoom out: The library holds and preserves millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs and other documents.

• It also operates the U.S. Copyright Office and oversees the Congressional Research Service.
• The Library of Congress did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

Blanche's new post is the latest in a series of appointments the president has given to prominent loyalists, including several of his former lawyers.

• Alina Habba, who served as Trump's personal lawyer before joining his administration, was tapped to become interim U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey.
• Dean John Sauer, another former Trump attorney, is now solicitor general.
• And Trump also selected Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, a longtime ally, to serve as interim U.S. Attorney for D.C.
