Trump names his defense lawyers for top DOJ and solicitor general roles

The big picture: Trump has vowed to reform the DOJ and will nominate Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to serve as attorney general to oversee this during his second term.

• Trump wants Blanche to serve as deputy attorney general and said in a statement Thursday that the lead attorney in his New York hush money trial "will be a crucial leader in the Justice Department, fixing what has been a broken System of Justice for far too long."

Zoom in: Bove will serve as principal associate deputy attorney general and as acting deputy attorney general while Blanche is in the process of being confirmed by the Senate, Trump said.

• "Emil is a tough and strong attorney, who will be a crucial part of the Justice Department, rooting out corruption and crime," he added.

• Trump called Sauer a "deeply accomplished, masterful appellate attorney," and acknowledged the role he played in the Supreme Court immunity ruling.
• "Most recently, John was the lead counsel representing me in the Supreme Court in Trump v. United States, winning a Historic Victory on Presidential Immunity, which was key to defeating the unconstitutional campaign of Lawfare against me and the entire MAGA Movement," he said in a statement.
