Trump offers to help end India-Pakistan tensions

President Trump said Wednesday he hopes the clashes between India and Pakistan end soon and offered to help mediate between the two sides.

The big picture: Tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations over the disputed Kashmir region they both claim fully belongs to them are at their highest level for six years.

Officials in Pakistan have said they'll retaliate against India's missile attacks on the country's territory, which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government says is to avenge a terrorist attack in an Indian-administered area of Kashmir.

What he's saying: "They've gone tit-for-tat, so hopefully they can stop now," Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday.

Trump said he knows the leaders of both countries well and he hopes "to see them work it out."
He added: "If I can do anything to help, I will be there."
