Democrats on Mike Waltz's ouster: Don't stop there

• House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has gone as far as to call for Hegseth to be fired — a step he didn't explicitly demand in the case of Waltz.
• Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) in March privately floated impeaching Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Director of National Security Tulsi Gabbard.

Driving the news: Waltz is changing roles about a month after he inadvertently included a journalist in a Signal chat discussing sensitive details about a strike in Yemen.

• After a flood of reports that Waltz was being ousted, President Trump announced he was nominating him for a new role: UN ambassador.
• Secretary of State Marco Rubio will replace Waltz on an interim basis while keeping his current job.

What they're saying: Jeffries said at a press conference Thursday that he believes others should follow Waltz out the door, saying he is "the first" but "certainly won't be the last."

• Many of his fellow House Democrats echoed that sentiment: "Hopefully Hagseth is next to go and Trump gets serious about our national security before something terrible happens," said Rep. Greg Landsman (D-Ohio).
• So did Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who told reporters: "They should fire him, but they're firing the wrong guy. They should be firing Hegseth."
