Sen. Mark Kelly brings back horror stories from Ukraine

Zoom in: Kelly told reporters Monday afternoon that in just a matter of days, the pause on intelligence sharing has already hurt Ukraine's ability to defend itself.

• "There is stuff they don't get that they need that changes their ability to defend against attacks — and those attacks happened on Friday night and Saturday night when I was there," Kelly said.

Kelly spoke with one Ukrainian in a hospital who had suffered multiple amputations, asking what the solider made of the sudden shift in U.S. policy.

What to watch: Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday that the U.S. is close to lifting the pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

Zoom out: "Putin has a plan," Kelly said. "He started with the Balkans, and then he went to Crimea, and he wants to take Ukraine, and then I think that he will want to go after another country that was formerly part of the Soviet Union."
