Trump planning to attend Super Bowl in New Orleans

President Trump plans to attend Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Sunday, the White House confirmed to Axios.

Why it matters: Prior sitting presidents have participated in events surrounding the Super Bowl, but it's rare for a president to attend the game itself.

Zoom in: It's unclear when Trump will arrive in New Orleans for the game, where the Kansas City Chiefs will face off with the Philadelphia Eagles.

State of play: Trump is also planning to sit for an interview with Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier that will air during Fox's Super Bowl pregame show, Axios' previously reported.

Trump has a long track record of attending sporting events while in office.
