NYC mayor will meet with Trump on Friday, his office says

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) will meet with President-elect Trump on Friday, his office announced.
The big picture: After the New York Times reported on the previously unannounced Mar-a-Lago meeting three days out from Trump's inauguration, Adams' spokesperson Fabien Levy released a statement on Thursday saying the mayor looked forward to having "productive" talks with Trump "on how we can move our city and country forward."
The intrigue: Adams is under federal indictment on bribery and fraud charges and Trump has said he would consider pardoning Adams, who denies any wrongdoing.
- Trump, who was convicted of 34 felonies in his NYC hush-money case, told Adams at the Al Smith charity dinner in October: "We were persecuted, Eric. I was persecuted and so are you, Eric."
The big picture: Trump has held a series of high-profile meetings with leaders from the left and right of politics at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, since winning November's presidential election.
- These include Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), outgoing liberal Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Italy's conservative Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and populist Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
- Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.
