Trump loses latest bid to toss $5 million E. Jean Carroll defamation verdict

• "We conclude that Mr. Trump has not demonstrated that the district court erred in any of the challenged rulings," U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said.
• Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump, said Trump will continue to appeal the case.
• "The American People have re-elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate, and they demand an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and a swift dismissal of all of the Witch Hunts," Cheung said in a statement.

Catch up quick: A jury ordered Trump to pay the damages in May 2023, determining that he sexually abused Carroll and defamed her. She sued him in 2022 after going public with her allegations in 2019.

• Trump has continuously tried to fight the verdict. He's falsely claimed that other cases against him were politically motivated.

Zoom in: The court on Monday said the errors Trump alleged in his appeal didn't affect his substantial rights therefore a new trial isn't warranted.

Between the lines: In a separate case, Trump was ordered to pay $83.3 million in damages to Carroll for defamation.
