Target is discounting one of the most popular holiday gifts — gift cards — this weekend.
Why it matters: Gift cards are expected to be a top gift with total spending projected to reach $28.6 billion, according to the National Retail Federation's annual survey.
- Clothing is the most popular gift category with 54% of consumers planning to buy, followed by gift cards at 44% and toys at 36%.
The big picture: Holiday shoppers plan to purchase between three to four gift cards and spend an average of $51.18 per card or $170.48 per person, the NRF survey found.
- Restaurants are the most popular gift card category (30%), followed by department stores (25%), bank-issued gift cards (25%) and coffee shops (22%).
Target gift card deal 2024
How it works: From Dec. 7-8, Target is offering 10% off store gift card purchases up to $500, for a maximum savings of $50.
- The offer is only available for members of the free Target Circle loyalty program.
- Exclusions apply and the offer is available on in-store and online Target gift card purchases.
- Target said the discount will be automatically applied for Circle members when they use their Target profile on the app or website or enter their phone number at checkout in-stores.
State of play: Target said more than 5 million store gift cards were purchased during the two-day offer in 2023.
Bath & Body Works' Candle Day 2024
Bath & Body Works' annual Candle Day sale returns for the 13th year this weekend.
- Loyalty members get early access for loyalty members Friday in stores, online and in the app, the company told Axios.
- On Saturday and Sunday, the sale is open for everyone and 3-wick candles are $9.95 each.
- There's a limit of 24 candles per customer.
Kohl's Super Saturday deals
Kohl's said it is having Super Saturday deals each Saturday through Christmas starting this week.
- Four customers each Saturday at each of its 1,100-plus stores will have their cart paid in Kohl's "Your Cart, Our Treat" promotion, which will continue Dec. 14 and Dec. 21.
Big Lots gift card hunt
Big Lots, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September, announced it is holding a gift card hunt every Saturday through Christmas called the "BIG Ho-Ho Holiday Hunt" at stores nationwide.
- Each Saturday morning, Big Lots will share a clue on in-store signage and on Facebook and Instagram stories on where to find the hidden holiday card vouchers that can be exchanged for a gift card.
- The gift card vouchers are valued at $20, $50 and $100, Big Lots said.
