Rhode Island lawmakers caught in Thanksgiving bomb threats

Driving the news: Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-R.I.) said in a statement that he "was recently notified of a bomb threat targeting me and my family at our home."

• "We are safe and there was no evidence of a bomb on the property," Magaziner added.
• Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) "received a similar bomb threat to the ones made against other Democrats on Thanksgiving," his office told Axios.

Zoom out: Reps. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.) and Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) were among the Trump appointees targeted with bomb and "swatting" threats earlier this week.

• Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Reps. Jim Himes (D-Conn.), Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), John Larson (D-Conn.), Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) and Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.) all faced bomb threats on Thursday.

What they're saying: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' (D-N.Y.) office, in a statement Friday, called for "maximum protection for all Members and their families" in response to the threats.

• They said the threats against Connecticut members "ranged from detailed threats of a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes to swatting" and were "all signed with "MAGA" at the conclusion of the message."

• House Administration Committee Chair Bryan Steil (R-Wisc.) said there is "no place for threats or political violence in our democracy" and that he is ensuring law enforcement has "the resources they need to keep Members and their families safe."
• Law enforcement so far has not provided details on their investigations into the threats, including whether the incidents are related.
