Most of Connecticut's delegation in Congress targeted by bomb threats

All but one of the seven U.S. House and Senate Democrats from Connecticut, including the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said Thursday they were the targets of bomb threats.

Why it matters: The development comes after a spate of bomb and "swatting" threats against President-elect Trump's nominees earlier this week – none of which were found to be credible.

Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.), former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) and Pete Hegseth – Trump's picks for U.N. ambassador, labor secretary, EPA administrator and defense secretary, respectively – were among the targets.

Driving the news: "This morning, I was notified of a bomb threat targeting my home where I was celebrating Thanksgiving with my family," top Intelligence Committee Democrat Jim Himes (D-Conn.) said in a statement.

Himes said that after a "swift and thorough response" from the Capitol Police and Greenwich and Stamford police departments,"no evidence of a bomb was found."
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) also had his home targeted by a bomb threat on Thursday morning in what "appears to be part of a coordinated effort involving multiple members of Congress and public figures," his spokesperson said.

Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.) said in a statement she was notified Thursday morning by her local police chief of "a threatening email stating a pipe bomb had been placed in the mailbox at my home."

Law enforcement "responded and no bomb or explosive materials were discovered and the scene was cleared," Hayes said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) was "targeted with a bomb threat while he and his family were at home to celebrate Thanksgiving," his spokesperson said in a statement.

Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) said in a statement that local police came to his house Thursday morning in response to a bomb threat and "determined no bomb was present at the property."

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), the ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, said in a post on X that she "received a bomb threat similar to my colleagues in the Connecticut congressional delegation."

The Capitol Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
