Hakeem Jeffries reelected as House Democratic leader

• Several of Jeffries' colleagues gave "rousing" and "powerful" speeches on his behalf, sources told Axios, with one lawmaker even comparing him to a biblical figure.

The big picture: Democrats are making few changes to their top leadership ranks, despite falling short of their goal of winning a House majority on Nov. 5.

• House Democratic caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) and Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) were both reelected by acclamation.
• So were Assistant Leader Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) and Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu (D-Calif.).

Zoom in: Democratic Policy and Communications Committee chair Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), the only senior leadership member facing a contested reelection, defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) 152 to 59.

• Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) was elected as a DPCC co-chair, joining Reps. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) and Lori Trahan (D-Mass.).
• Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) was elected as the leadership representative for members with five terms or fewer.

What we're hearing: Reps. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) and Greg Meeks (D-N.Y.) gave speeches on Jeffries' behalf.

• Scholten compared Jeffries to Joshua, who in the Bible became leader of the Israelites following Moses' death, two sources told Axios.
• Scholten also told colleagues: "It's easy to be a leader in good times; it takes an extraordinary leader to lead in tough times."
