Jack Teixeira sentenced to 15 years for Pentagon leak

• "I understand all the responsibility and consequences fall upon my shoulders alone and accept whatever that will bring," Teixeira said to the judge before being sentenced, per AP.
• Prosecutors argued in court documents that Teixeira should be sentenced to more than 16 years, or 200 months, in prison, the maximum punishment listed in his plea agreement's sentencing guidelines.
• "Especially in an era of social media where the Government's secrets can be shared around the world with the click of a mouse, the Court's sentence must send a message that reinforces the importance of faithfully honoring promises to safeguard the secrets of our nation," the government wrote in its sentencing memorandum.
• His attorneys requested a lesser sentence of 11 years, highlighting Teixeira's age, autism diagnosis and mental health conditions.

Flashback: The 22-year-old defendant was stationed at the Otis Air National Guard Base in Massachusetts.

• He worked as an IT specialist, a job that entrusted him with responsibility over military communications networks — and a higher level of security clearance.
• The documents were leaked on Discord by a person known as "OG," later identified as Teixeira.
• Prosecutors said last year that he had received multiple warnings over his alleged mishandling of classified documents, arguing he had shown a "willful disregard" to his obligations.
