FBI warns about false election "terror threat" video circulating online

• "The FBI is working closely with state and local law enforcement partners to respond to election threats and protect our communities as Americans exercise their right to vote," the FBI said on Tuesday.

Driving the news: Two videos circulating online purported to be from the FBI, the agency said on Tuesday.

• One is a fabricated news clip that falsely claimed the FBI said Americans should "vote remotely" because of terror threats at polling places.
• "This video is not authentic and does not accurately represent the current threat posture or polling location safety," the FBI said in a statement.
• The other video, containing a fabricated press release, said the management of five prisons in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona rigged inmate voting and colluded with a political party.

• One video made false claims about arresting groups linked to the Democratic Party for ballot fraud. The other related to Doug Emhoff, Vice President Harris' husband.

• Foreign powers seeking to influence the outcome — Russia, China and Iran — are circulating fake videos on social media aimed at sowing discord and distrust.

The big picture: Officials haven't seen any election security threats that could "materially impact" the outcome of the presidential election, Jen Easterly, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, said on Monday.
