Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump have made a combined 52 visits to Pennsylvania and Michigan since August — and a grand total of zero to 35 non-swing states.
Why it matters: Thanks to the Electoral College, presidential campaigns run through only a handful of states. An Axios analysis of trips by Harris and Trump sheds light on the states at the top of their priority lists.
Driving the news: Harris is closing out her campaign on Monday in the state she has visited more than any other, Pennsylvania (16 visits), where 19 electoral votes hang in the balance.
- She campaigned Sunday in the second state on her travel priority list: Michigan (10).
Breaking it down: Also high on her list are Wisconsin (8), Georgia (6), North Carolina (6), Arizona (4) and Nevada (4). No surprises there: those are the seven swing states.
- She's also visited New York (2) and California (2) for fundraisers, and made her first campaign stop in Texas on Oct. 25 for a rally with Beyoncé.
The other side: Pennsylvania (15) and Michigan (11) are also top of Trump's list, along with North Carolina (11).
- Trump will visit all three of those states in a packed final day of the campaign.
- In addition to Wisconsin (7), Georgia (7), Nevada (5) and Arizona (4), Trump has made four swings through his native New York, most recently for his controversial rally at Madison Square Garden.
Between the lines: Trump has held far fewer campaign rallies this time around than in his past runs, but he's still kept a busier travel schedule than Harris.
Notes: Our analysis of the candidates trips is based on press releases and media reports. It doesn't include campaign stops in Washington, DC for Harris or Florida for Trump, since those don't involve trips out of state.
Editor's note: This story has been update to reflect the candidates' latest travels. It has been corrected to reflect that Harris and Trump have made 40 combined visits to Pennsylvania and Michigan, not 30.
