Gwen Walz uses fertility treatment experience to advocate for reproductive rights

Driving the news: "You never imagine that your daughter is going to have fewer rights than you do," Walz wrote. "And in 21 states that have abortion bans or gestational limits right now, that is the case."

• "Donald Trump is the one who took down Roe. I don't trust him. And frankly, I'm not willing to put my daughter's reproductive health in his hands. If he's elected, I think there will be a nationwide abortion ban."

State of play: Trump has repeatedly boasted about his role in repealing Roe v. Wade and — despite a history of flip-flopping on abortion — has campaigned on the notion that abortion regulations should be left up to states to decide.

• He has also said he doesn't support a national ban but has previously suggested a national 15-week abortion ban could be "very reasonable."
• While the overturning of Roe opened up legal questions over fertility treatments, Trump has said he supports IVF and even wants to make it free.
• Harris said she would sign a law to restore Roe v. Wade, which protected federal abortion access.

Context: Walz underwent fertility treatments and eventually conceived via intrauterine insemination after struggling with infertility for years, she wrote.

• She was prescribed Clomid, a medication that increases the hormones that stimulate egg production in the ovaries. Walz also received shot injections before an intrauterine insemination procedure to increase the chances of successful fertilization.

• "The hardest part was waiting to know if the treatments had worked that time, and just hoping so much that it had," she wrote. "When it didn't work, it felt like a failure."
