Fox News Media will launch a daily Spanish-language news show called "Fox Noticias" that will air on Fox Corp.'s Spanish-language sports cable network Fox Deportes, executives told Axios. Ahead of the debut next week, Fox News will also unveil a Spanish-language version of its website.
Why it matters: 50% of the increase in new eligible voters over the past four years has been Hispanic, representing one of the fastest-growing voting blocks in the country, per Pew. But traditional television and newspaper outlets catering to that group have experienced declines.
- There have been a few conservative news startups launched since 2020, including Americano Media and Voz Media, but they don't have the infrastructure and backing of a major publicly traded company, such as Fox Corp.
Zoom in: The new show, airing weekdays at 4pm ET beginning Oct. 15, will be hosted by "Fox & Friends Weekend" co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy.
- Duffy, a granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, said the show will focus on "the kitchen table issues that matter most to our community," such as politics, the economy, immigration and cultural trends. The show will also feature major sports highlights from Fox Deportes.
- The program will be available to stream on Fox Sports' app, FoxDeportes.com, Fox Nation, the new Spanish-language website and on YouTube.
- The program will also be available as a podcast on any major audio platform. Clips will be distributed through dedicated channels on other social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok and Snapchat.
Ahead of the show's debut, the Spanish-language version of the Fox News website will be available at Noticias.FOXNews.com.
- The site will feature machine-translated copies of breaking and trending news featured on Fox News' English-language website, as well as original commentary catered to Hispanic readers.
Catch up quick: Fox News' cable rivals have long had Spanish-language counterparts. CNN en Español launched in 1997. NBCUniversal, home to NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC, acquired Telemundo in 2002.
- But Fox Corp.'s Hispanic roots run deep. Launched three years ahead of Fox News in 1993, Fox Deportes is the country's first and longest-running Spanish-language sports network.
- Fox News launched a website catered to Latinos in 2010 but shuttered the site six years later and redirected its Latino-focused coverage to its website.
Between the lines: Fox News' audience traditionally was mostly white, but that's changed in recent years as more Hispanics have shifted right politically.
- The network reached more Hispanic viewers last quarter than its cable news rivals, Fox News said last week, citing data from Nielsen MRI Fusion.
- "Fox News Channel has seen dramatic growth in Hispanic viewers over the last year increasing in double and triple digits in viewers and the younger A25–54 demographic," Fox News senior vice president John Sylvester told Axios.
- "Coupled with recent data that shows the Hispanic population is the fastest growing electorate, it was a natural decision to create 'Fox Noticias,'" he added.
The big picture: Fox News' foray into Spanish-language news comes amid a broader expansion into lifestyle content, including books, weather and faith.
- Its subscription streaming platform, Fox Nation, is launching a new faith-based vertical. Fox News launched a book label through HarperCollins in 2020. It created a streaming service dedicated solely to weather in 2021.
What to watch: Campos-Duffy will interview Panama President José Raúl Mulino during the program's debut week.
