Scoop: Congress urges members to boost safety precautions

What they're saying: "As we begin the August District Work Period, the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) urges offices to review the services available to enhance security awareness in your district," House sergeant-at-arms William McFarland wrote in a notice to House offices on Wednesday.

• Those services include coordination with local law enforcement for events, extra security for air travel, a security allotment for lawmakers' homes and a variety of briefings for staffers — including active shooter training.
• The notice also includes advice on digital security, including advising lawmakers not to connect to hotel WiFi or use public or hotel charging stations during international travel, and to bring a data blocker.

Zoom out: Lawmakers' safety has been a growing concern given the rise in threats directed at them and their offices in recent years and in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack.
