Reproductive rights and paid leave advocates are teaming up

State of play: Paid Leave for All Action and Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL) are launching the campaign, which includes paid and earned media plus what they call in a press release, "civic engagement and canvassing" — essentially outreach to voters about these issues.

Zoom in: In an election year, the message is that both reproductive freedom and economic freedom are on the ballot, said Dawn Huckelbridge, director of the paid leave group.

• "Nothing is more important than the freedom to decide whether or not to have a family, and then if you do, the ability and freedom to support one, to care for one," she said.
• With Roe v. Wade overturned and still no U.S. parental leave policy that would provide paid time off from work to care for a child or ailing family member, "women have neither," Huckelbridge added.

• These issues poll well together, particularly with suburban women, she said.

The big picture: Overturning abortion rights has changed perceptions of the issue for Democrats.

• "Everyone finally understands that abortion is an important and winning issue politically," Huckelbridge said.
• Harris has made reproductive rights and paid leave key parts of her campaign, energizing advocates.
• A coalition of paid family leave groups are spending $500,000 on another ad focused on Harris' biography.
