Beshear signals he’d be open to serving as VP for Harris

What he's saying: "The Vice President is smart and strong, which will make her a good president, but she's also kind and has empathy, which can make her a great president," Beshear said.

• "A contrast between her and those running on the other side couldn't be clearer," he said, before criticizing Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), who former President Trump named as his running mate last week.
• "The vice president is ready, she has my full endorsement," he said. "I'm going to do everything I can to support her."

Zoom in: Beshear also said Monday that it is "flattering" to be floated as a potential running mate for Harris.

• "I take it as a compliment though to what we've done in Kentucky," he said. "What we've done in Kentucky is what we need to do in this country."

• When asked whether he would consider being Harris' VP if asked, he said: "The only way I would consider something other than this current job is if I believe I could further help my people and to help this country."
• When pressed again, he said: "I think if somebody calls you on that, you at least listen."
