Panic and anxiety have proved to be more relatable themes than riding giant sand invertebrates, if movie attendance is any indication.
Zoom in: "Inside Out 2," the Disney and Pixar sequel to the 2015 animated hit, pulled in $100 million at the domestic box office in its second weekend, toppling "Dune 2" as the highest-grossing film so far this year.
The summer box office has been off to a slow start after last year's dual Hollywood strikes delayed expected hits, including "Snow White" and "Blade," both of which had been planned for release this year.
What we're watching: "Inside Out 2" is now on track to become the first movie this year to surpass $1 billion worldwide.
And if this weekend's box office rankings hold come year-end, then 2024 will be the second year in a row that a film with a female protagonist generates the highest-gross.
