Bankruptcy trustee plans to shut down Alex Jones' Infowars site

• A Texas bankruptcy judge ruled earlier this month that Jones' personal assets would be liquidated to help pay the $1.5 billion he owes the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims, but ruled against liquidating the companies he's used to help spread disinformation.
• The families have accused Jones of attempting to reroute assets from his company Free Speech Systems, or FSS, to other entities.

Yes, but: Trustee Christopher Murray is seeking to temporarily block families and other creditors from immediately obtaining any assets, according to the motion, filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas in Houston on Sunday.

• He's seeking an order staying collection actions against owner Jones' Free Speech Systems for 90 days in order to "prevent a value-destructive money grab and allow an orderly process to take its course," per the filing.

State of play: The trustee has already begun "planning to wind-up" the company's operations and "liquidate its inventory."

• However, lawyers for the parents of one of the 20 children killed the Newtown, Connecticut, massacre asked a state judge on Friday for a "turnover" order to release cash and other assets to the families, per AP.
• "The specter of a pell-mell seizure of FSS's assets, including its cash, threatens to throw the business into chaos, potentially stopping it in its tracks, to the detriment of the interests of the chapter 7 estate for which the Trustee is responsible," Murray said in his request.

What they're saying: "[T]his is precisely the unfortunate situation that the Connecticut families hoped to avoid when we argued that the Free Speech Systems/InfoWars case should have remained with the bankruptcy court rather than being dismissed," said Christopher Mattei, an attorney for the  Sandy Hook families, in a statement to media.

• Jones, who's appealing the judgments against him, could not be immediately reached for comment.
