Alex Jones' personal assets will be liquidated to pay Sandy Hook families, judge rules

• Jones has tried to use bankruptcy to protect his personal assets and his extremist media platform in an effort to limit the defamation damages after repeatedly spreading lies that one of the deadliest mass shootings in the U.S. was a hoax.

State of play: In recent days, Jones told viewers and radio listeners that his media company was on the verge of being shut down. He directed them to a new website owned by his father to continue buying his supplements, according to AP.

• Sandy Hook families have accused Jones of attempting to reroute assets from Free Speech Systems to other entities to support future operations.
• Jones recently asked to switch his personal bankruptcy from reorganization to liquidation to pay judgments the families are owed. The families asked a judge to switch Free Speech Systems' separate bankruptcy case to liquidation, as well.

Zoom in: Because of the ruling, much all of Jones' personal assets will be sold off. But he's expected to be able to keep his home in the Austin area and other specific exempted items.

• His personal assets are valued at around $9 million and he has already attempted to sell his Texas ranch worth around $2.8 million, his gun collection, a cryogenic chamber and other belongings.

• It remains unclear whether his social media accounts will be turned over to the court, which the Sandy Hook families requested, according to Reuters.

• The families alleged Jones defamed them, inflicted emotional distress on them and made millions from their suffering by promoting dubious but expensive supplements while claiming their family members' deaths were fake.
• In a Texas trial in August 2022, Jones conceded while on the witness stand that he now believes the school shooting was "100% real."
