Libertarians pick Chase Oliver as presidential nominee

What they're saying: "We did it! I am officially the presidential nominee," wrote Oliver on X Sunday. "It's time to unify and move forward for liberty."

Zoom out: The results come after the party's chair reportedly said Trump failed to file the papers required to qualify for consideration, one day after he was met with boos and jeers as he urged Libertarian delegates at the national convention to "nominate me or at least vote for me."

• Trump wrote on his Truth Social network Sunday that he would have won the nomination if he'd wanted it, but he didn't file the paperwork because "as the Republican Nominee, I am not allowed to have the Nomination of another Party."
• Independent presidential candidate Kennedy, who was eliminated in the first round of voting at the Libertarians' national convention in Washington, D.C., tweeted that it was an "unexpected honor" to learn he had been in contention.

• "I would have accepted the nomination if offered because independents and third parties need to unite right now to reclaim our country from the corrupt two-party system," he said.
