Simone Biles will not be competing in the Olympic floor exercise event to prioritize her mental well-being, USA Gymnastics announced Sunday morning local time.
What's happening: "Simone has withdrawn from the event final for floor and will make a decision on beam later this week," USA Gymnastics said in a statement. "Either way, we're all behind you, Simone."
The big picture: The 24-year-old four-time Olympic gold medalist withdrew from last week's Tokyo Games women's gymnastics team finals and the individual all-around finals.
What she's saying: Biles last Wednesday responded on Twitter to the support she's received following her decisions.
- "[T]he outpouring love & support I’ve received has made me realize I’m more than my accomplishments and gymnastics which I never truly believed before," Biles said.
