Former Apple and current Uber executive Bozoma St. John says it is time for tech executives to be held financially responsible for boosting the diversity of their ranks.
Why it matters: Among the many issues for which Silicon Valley has been under attack is the lack of women and people of color.
"There's no excuse," she said, speaking at the Lesbians Who Tech Summit in San Francisco on Friday. "There’s no excuse. We’re way past that."
Despite considerable talk about the issue, overall numbers have inched only slightly higher at most of the large tech companies.
St.John noted that executives' compensation are tied to all kinds of metrics that a company deems strategic. "Let’s add dviversity to that," she said.
