Seven out of 10 people across the U.S. ages 65 and older — totaling 38 million — have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Why it matters: Older adults are among the most vulnerable to the virus and those in long-term care facilities have been recommended for priority vaccinations.

By the numbers:

  • Close to 44% — 24 million — of the 65 and older population has been fully vaccinated.
  • Across the U.S., about 26% of the total population — roughly 85 million people — have received at least one dose.
  • Nationally, about 14% — 46 million people — have been fully vaccinated.

Among those who are fully vaccinated:

Globally, the U.S. is sixth in terms of percentage of the population that is fully vaccinated, according to the New York Times world tracker.

  • Israel is first at 52%.

What to watch via Axios' Marisa Fernandez: Health experts anticipate all high-risk Americans to be vaccinated in the next four weeks.
