At least half a million people are known to be homeless in the United States — and the pandemic complicated efforts around the country to keep people housed. But cities are still trying to fix this. Washington, D.C, is doing something different —a pilot program offering one-year leases to unhoused residents in the city.

Averting default for now
After days of will-they, won’t-they on the Hill, Senate Democrats and Republicans came to an agreement yesterday to extend the debt ceiling through early December. This came less than two weeks ahead of a deadline that would have seen the U.S. default on its debt for the first time.
