House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said that the House ethics committee should investigate the "verbal assault" and "abuse" from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) toward Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

Driving the news: "You don't care about the American people," Greene shouted at Ocasio-Cortez as they exited the House chamber, according to two Washington Post reporters who witnessed the encounter. "Why do you support terrorists and antifa?"

  • Ocasio-Cortez did not respond to Greene's comments.

What she's saying: "It's so beyond the pale of anything that is in keeping with bringing honor to the House or not bringing dishonor to the House. It's so beyond the pale that you wonder it probably is a matter for the ethics committee," Pelosi said

  • "This is beneath the dignity of a person serving in the Congress of the United States, and is a cause for trauma and fear among members," she added.
  • It is "not in keeping with the behavior of a member of Congress and their own caucus. Their own caucus should exercise some ... respectable behavior standard for them, but it could be that this would rise the level of an ethics complaint."

The other side: "Actually, Speaker Pelosi, the Ethics Committee should look into Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for putting Trump admin staff and supporters on lists to destroy their lives and prevent future employment," Greene said in response to Pelosi.

  • "She threatened the livelihoods of Americans for simply being Republicans. BTW, there was no screaming," she added.

Worth noting: This is not the first time Greene has had an altercation with a Democratic colleague. In January, Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) moved her office away from Greene's “for the safety” of her team after she confronted the Republican lawmaker for not wearing a mask.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced in letter to members on Friday that she is extending proxy voting in the chamber until Oct. 1 in response to a surge in new coronavirus cases driven by the Delta variant.

Why it matters: Despite initial opposition and a lawsuit from House Republicans, remote voting is quickly becoming the norm. Some members have even pressured Pelosi to make the arrangement permanent.

Nine House Democrats say they won't vote on budget unless infrastructure bill passes

Nine House Democrats on Thursday sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) warning that they would not vote on a budget resolution until the $1 trillion infrastructure package passes the House and is signed into law, Punchbowl News reported.

Why it matters: The pledge threatens Democrats' plan to pass both a multitrillion-dollar spending package and the bipartisan infrastructure package, which Pelosi has pledged to take up at the same time. With only a slim majority in the House, Pelosi can only lose three Democratic votes.

The U.S. has reached a tipping point in its shift from the industrial economy — one that relied on the buildout of hardware — to an information economy that relies on the transfer, storage and implementation of data, according to a new report.

Why it matters: This shift towards a data and information-based economy has allowed more businesses to establish themselves and scale quickly and at a very low cost. As such, the number of jobs created by the commercial internet has more than tripled since 2012.
