1 big thing: 👀 Creeping on celebrity homes
Several iconic homes hit the market in 2024, from the "Home Alone" house to DJ Khaled's former Miami mansion.
Why it matters: Window shopping is fun.
Here's a look back at some of the most popular Axios listings of the year.
Chicago's famed "Home Alone" house recently sold for $5.25 million.
- The single-family suburban home was built in 1921 and has five bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and a three-car garage. Other highlights include an indoor basketball court and a movie theater.
- Despite its differences from the original 1990 film, the renovated home still excites buyers and fans, Axios' Moyo Adeolu says.

The Aventura mansion where Miami music mogul DJ Khaled once lived hit the market for $16.4 million earlier this year, Axios' Martin Vassolo wrote.
- What's inside: The six-bed, seven-bath home comes with 14K gold and crystal chandeliers, a movie theater, and a custom shoe closet where Khaled used to keep his collection of over 500 sneakers. (The shoes are gone, but the closet still has Khaled's "We the Best" logo on the floor.)

A "Haunted Mansion"-inspired home, built by a former Disney theme park contractor, sold for $2.2 million in Duluth, Georgia.
- The intrigue: Mark Hurt, whose dad built exhibits for natural history museums, paid so much attention to detail on the nearly 10,000 square-foot home he even hired the same foundry that worked on Disney's mansion for the porch's ironwork, Axios' Thomas Wheatley reported.
Thomas' thought bubble: The home's interior is more West Elm than haunted house. It includes a chef's kitchen and a hot tub; the two-tier basement has a media space.

A Georgetown townhouse where former President Kennedy and his wife, Jackie, once lived is on the market for $4.6 million, Axios D.C. reporter Mimi Montgomery learned.
- The 3,100-square-foot home includes four bedrooms, five baths, an elevator, a garden, wine storage, and a guest suite.
- Fun fact: This is the house the Kennedys moved into as newlyweds.

2. More million-dollar listings

The big picture: Wealthy people are the ones who can play in this market. Million-dollar homes grew 1 percentage point to 9.3% in 2024 from 2023, Redfin found.
The intrigue: The number of U.S. cities in which typical home values are above $1 million climbed to 550 in 2024 from 491.
The bottom line: U.S. median home prices have nearly doubled over the last decade.
