1 big thing: 🍽️ DaBaby's new restaurant opening soon
Rapper DaBaby is opening a new brunch restaurant in north Charlotte this summer.
Why it matters: While the Charlotte native has long put his hometown on the map through his music, this marks his first venture into the city's food scene.
Zoom in: DaBaby first teased plans to open a restaurant earlier this year.
- Now, fresh off his inaugural Be More Grateful music festival in Concord, he's gearing up to open No Knife Chicken & Waffles off North Graham Street.
What to expect: The menu is still being finalized but will feature chicken and waffles dishes and a few recipes DaBaby has been sharing with fans on his social media.
- The restaurant also plans to stay open after midnight, offering a late-night dining option with a full bar.
- It'll have a upscale diner vibe with booth and bar seating and eventually a patio space.
2. 🍿 Charlotte celebrity coming to your screen
Andy Roddick is part of a stacked cast in this summer's pickleball comedy, "The Dink," heading to Apple TV.
Why it matters: Charlotte has long lauded the fame of model and actress Brooklyn Decker, Roddick's wife, who attended Butler High School in Matthews. After years of the couple calling the Charlotte area home, we're claiming Roddick as a local celebrity, too.
What to expect: Roddick is the childhood nemesis of Dusty Boyd, played by Jake Johnson in the upcoming film. Boyd, is a former tennis prodigy who is forced to turn to pickleball to rehab an injury.
- The cast also includes Ben Stiller, Ed Harris, Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell and Aaron Chen.
What's next: "The Dink" comes out on July 24.
3. 🍦 Davidson gets sweeter
Seemingly Overzealous, the locally owned dairy-, egg- and gluten-free ice cream shop, opens its Davidson location July 1.
What to expect: 12–16 rotating flavors, including favorites like "CAN'T ALL BE COOKiE" (cookies & cream) and "BiG MiNT CiTY FAN" (mint chip), plus creative options like "PRiME PEEPiN" (ube cheesecake).
- You'll also find gluten-free waffle cones, ice cream sammies, cakes and pints.
- The Davidson location will also add shakes in September, followed by ice cream flights and more baked goods this fall.
The vibe: The 1,000-square-foot shop seats 25 indoors and will feature the brand's signature playful design (yes, including the glitter floors).
Zoom out: Owners and operaters Jessica Berresse and Garrett Tichy opened the original Seemingly Overzealous shop in Camp North End in 2023.
- The brand also has locations in Dilworth and Plaza Midwood and plans to expand to Matthews, though an opening timeline is unclear.
Stop by: 207 Griffith St.
- Open Monday–Thursday, 1-9pm; Friday 1-10pm, Saturday noon-10pm and Sunday noon-8pm.

4. 😋 1 NoDa deli to go: Opening next week
Olivelli Deli's grand opening is Wednesday, July 1.
Context: Tonidandel-Brown Restaurant Group, the team behind Supperland and Ever Andalo, has transformed their former Reigning Doughnuts space into a new NoDa deli.
What to expect: Olivelli Deli will offer soft serve ice cream with the option for a cone or a cup, sandwiches, coffee and soft drinks.
- Breakfast sandwiches will be available from 8-11am. Lunch and dinner will be served from 11am-8pm.
- The deli's sandwiches will be served on a housemade benne seed roll.
- Soft serve options include: vanilla, chocolate and swirl.
If you go: It will be open 8am-8pm Tuesday through Sunday at 3120 N. Davidson St.
🧇 I'm craving some chicken and waffles now but I guess I'll wait until next month to try No Knife.
