Bub and Pop's says it never agreed to join Trump-linked State Fair

• Musicians, several states and now a beloved local business have already backed away from the event.

Driving the news: Bub and Pop's owner Jon Taub tells Axios his popular D.C. sandwich shop never agreed to participate in the fair, despite being included in a vendor lineup released by Freedom 250 organizers.

• Taub said his team initially believed they were being invited to participate in Eat250, a separate D.C. restaurant industry event.
• Once they realized the invitation was connected to the Trump-backed Freedom 250 organization in early June, "we quickly and politely declined," he said.
• The shop is listed as hosting the fair's sandwich-eating competition on Friday. Taub said you can instead catch them at a cheesesteak competition at Upside on Moore on July 25.

Freedom 250 organizers and other local shops on the lineup didn't immediately return Axios' request for comment.
