Exclusive: Janeese Lewis George nabs endorsement from former AG Karl Racine

• The two go way back: While Racine was bulking up the city's AG office — challenging the first Trump admin and suing big corporations — Lewis George worked as an assistant attorney general.
• In 2020, with Racine's support, Lewis George ousted an incumbent in Ward 4 to take her council seat.

"I think this moment calls for new energy, bold thinking, and a leader who can effectively challenge the status quo," Racine said.

Behind the scenes: Seen as a savvy political operator, Racine could lend the campaign his positive name ID and ties to D.C.'s law community — he's currently a partner at Hogan Lovells.

• Racine has a strong track record with endorsements (see: the current attorney general, Brian Schwalb, plus council members Robert White and Zachary Parker, to name a few others).

He says he would offer Lewis George help to campaign and recruiting a future administration.

Between the lines: Mayor Muriel Bowser, who was at odds with Racine while in office, has hinted that she'll endorse McDuffie.
