D.C. mayor is revved for Trump's IndyCar city street race this summer

What she's saying: "The race weekend will rev up the economic engine of D.C.," Bowser tells Axios in a statement, saying it will fill hotels and restaurants and prove "there's no better city, people and backdrop for major sports events."

Between the lines: Clap back at FIFA, which bypassed D.C. for World Cup matches while questioning the city's stadium readiness.

State of play: Trump's order directs the Interior and Transportation departments to work with Bowser on a route showcasing "the majesty of D.C. and its iconic national monuments" as part of America's 250th birthday.

• Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is authorized to use federal dollars to help facilitate the "Freedom 250 Grand Prix," scheduled for Aug. 21–23.
• Agencies are instructed to establish a race route within two weeks.

Friction point: NBC reported that Congress may. have to pave the way for the race, and sign off on the advertising (which is banned on Capitol grounds) that comes along with an IndyCar event.

The big picture: While America's 250th anniversary will be marked nationwide, Trump is putting his stamp on D.C.'s celebrations — including plans for a UFC fight on the White House lawn.
