DC's priciest homes: Mediterranean style reigns

If you want to buy a Mediterranean-style home around Washington, be ready to pay up and elbow out the competition, per a new Realtor.com report.

State of play: Mediterranean and English-style homes had the top two highest median asking prices among single-family DMV homes listed for sale in May, per Realtor.com's database.
- But they're also some of the hardest to find, each only making up about 1% of active listings in the same month.
- These types of homes also tend to have the largest square footage, per the study.
The intrigue: Over three-fourths of Washington's active May listings were Colonial and traditional-inspired pads (this includes the popular farmhouse-style).
- And while Ranch-style homes were the cheapest of the bunch, they had the smallest inventory — less than 1%.
