Exclusive: Downtown D.C.'s Hotel Harrington has a new owner

• And it made headlines during President Trump's first administration when members of the far-right Proud Boys group turned it into their unofficial headquarters and hung out at the hotel's bar, Harry's.

Driving the news: The Georgetown Company, the developer behind the forthcoming Four Seasons residences in Georgetown, is buying the site, a company representative tells Axios.

What they're saying: "It is exceedingly rare that a building offering so many flexible redevelopment options becomes available in this phenomenal location," says Georgetown Company managing director Peter Armstrong in a statement. "This is a blank canvas with multiple options we are considering to help build the future of downtown."

• A company representative declined to share the purchase price, although previous reports have listed the site's assessment at $25.4 million.

While the group hasn't yet determined what the site will be turned into, possibilities include another hotel, housing, a higher education site or a social club, per a press release.

• The property's historic facade will be maintained, a spokesperson tells Axios, and construction will likely begin next summer.
