Snow is forecast for D.C. Sunday through Monday

• Snowfall predictions were all over the map this winter, with some forecasts calling for 6 inches and others predicting up to 20 inches.

Zoom out: Concurrently, an Arctic outbreak of cold weather is beginning right now, Axios' Andrew Freedman reports.

• The first cold wave is moving in this week, a second early next week on the heels of a significant Plains to Mid-Atlantic winter storm, and additional ones after that.

Zoom in: Highs in D.C. may not get much above freezing for several days in a row during the Jan. 4-10 period, with the possibility of even colder weather arriving after that.

• Sunday is forecast to have a high of 36, before plunging as low as 26 degrees overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
