Some of NoVa's tastiest tacos and best beers are coming together: La Tingeria opens at Alexandria's Port City Brewing Company this Saturday to the tune of live mariachi music.
Why it matters: A new power couple is born.
Catch up quick: Chef David Peña started small with a food truck for his certified halal Mexican food — but that didn't stop him from racking up big awards (and a Falls Church taqueria).
- Ditto for Port City. Bill and Karen Butcher launched over a decade ago at the forefront of the DMV's local beer boom, and have transformed the brewery into a destination while their beers are retail staples.
Dig in: La Tingeria set up in a custom trailer kitchen by the tap room's patio, with ample seating indoors and out. Signature meats like goat or beef birria — standouts, even in the birria boom — chicken tinga, and Halal pastor can be ordered in tacos, sopes, tostadas, torta sandwiches and quesadillas. There's also a kids' menu.
- Being Halal there's no pork — and at other locations, no alcohol — but Peña gets creative with smoky chicken chorizo or pastor.
- Look for specials like Sonoran-style, beef bacon-wrapped hot dogs.
Pro tip: Brewmaster Bill recommends the chicken tinga taco matched with Optimal Wit or birria beef and a Monumental IPA.
