New design plans are out for the anticipated Sycamore & Oak development at the former St. Elizabeths campus in Southeast D.C.
The big picture: The development's design was tweaked to fall in line with "the character of the campus" and ensure that buildings varied visually, per a report filed last month to the Historic Preservation Review Board.
Yes, but: Representatives say the overall vision for the project hasn't changed.
- Expect a 650,000-square-foot, five-structure development designed by architect David Adjaye (behind the National Museum of African American History and Culture), with affordable housing, a hotel, office space, a grocery store, retail, restaurants and an outdoor performance space.
- The project is expected to break ground in 2026 and open in 2028.
