The Wolf Spritzer is D.C.'s drink of the summer and we've got the recipe.

Catch up quick: If you're wondering why "Wolf Spritzer" is trending, CNN's Wolf Blitzer posted a photo sampling his namesake cocktail at El Presidente on Sunday. He shared it on X almost exactly an hour before President Biden dropped out of the presidential race.

Shortly after, Blitzer was on air sans spritzer looking like we all do when the boss calls you in on a Sunday.

Why it matters: No other cocktail embodies summer 2024 like a refreshing spritz mixed with a sense of excitement and dread, garnished with the weekend work scaries.

The intrigue: Restaurateur Stephen Starr's Mexican hotspot opened last year near Union Market with the Wolf Spritzer. The bar team had fun creating a D.C.-themed cocktail, even sourcing Montelobos (translation: Mountain Wolves) tequila in honor of the famous anchor.

Starr reps tell Axios that Wolf Spritzer orders have quadrupled following the viral moment. They gave away 90 mini versions during a special happy hour on Monday.

The Wolf Spritzer

Makes one, to stay or go

Ingredients:

1.5 oz Aperol
.5 oz mezcal, preferably Montelobos
.5 oz lemon juice
3 oz cava or sparkling wine

Directions:

Fill an extra-large coupe with ice and add the first three ingredients, topping with bubbly. Garnish with a grapefruit slice and optional zest from political drama.
