Silver Spring's Red Lobster is closing and selling off restaurant items

The internet is in a crustacean-induced crisis after news hit this week that Red Lobster is abruptly closing dozens of locations nationwide, including several in Maryland and Virginia.

Why it matters: RIP, Cheddar Bay Biscuits — may you find peace in the big lobster tank in the sky.

Zoom in: Red Lobster has struggled with profitability in part because of issues like the popularity of its Endless Shrimp promotion, where shrimp stans quite literally nommed so hard that the business lost millions of dollars.

One bright spot: If you've ever wanted to feel like you live in a Gorton's Seafood ad, the now-shuttered Silver Spring location is auctioning off items like its booths, microwaves (yum, reheated fish!), and … a lobster tank that may or may not come with the lobsters in it.

Aquatic advice: Worried about where you can scratch your itch for seafood deals around town? No need to get crabby — Georgetown's Tony & Joe's has a "Lobster Mondays" special (a lobster and a beer for $30).

  • Plus, it appears other nearby locations like Red Lobster Alexandria live to seize the seas another day.
