Democrat Peggy Flanagan defeated Republican Michele Tafoya in Minnesota's U.S. Senate race, the Associated Press projects, keeping a key seat in Democratic hands.
The big picture: Flanagan won more than 54% of the vote to Tafoya's roughly 43%.
Tafoya won 56% of the vote in Greater Minnesota counties, but Flanagan racked up huge vote totals in the more populous Twin Cities metro, according to unofficial results.
She won the seven-county metro by a nearly 2-to-1 ratio, and won Hennepin and Ramsey counties with 72% of the vote.
