Minnesota Frost repeat at PWHL champions, hoist Walter Cup

• In front of Gov. Tim Walz and 11,024 raucous fans at Xcel Energy Center, Mound native Liz Schepers buried a rebound in overtime to seal the Frost's 3-1 series victory over the Ottawa Charge.

Stunning stat: All four games were goalie duels decided in overtime by identical final scores: 2-1.

The intrigue: Despite the loss, Ottawa netminder Gwyneth Philips — a new addition to Team USA's goaltending roster — was named playoff MVP.

• Philips earned the honor in large part because she held Minnesota's intimidating top line — Olympians Kendall Coyne Schofield, Taylor Heise and Grace Zumwinkle — almost completely off the scoresheet in the finals.

What we're watching: How much of the Frost's championship core returns to bid for a three-peat.

• A June 9 expansion draft to launch PWHL teams in Seattle and Vancouver could cost the Frost up to four high-end stars, according to The Hockey News.
