Look to see Gov. Tim Walz under the Friday Night Lights this fall. The former football coach is entertaining the idea of campaigning around high school games in battleground districts, Politico reported and Axios has confirmed.
Why it matters: There's lots of demand for Walz's everyman appeal on the campaign trail.
"He better f***ing do it," a House Democrat in a tossup race told Axios.
The big picture: Walz — and his newfound "coach" campaign moniker — will take center stage when he delivers his VP acceptance speech on Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Zoom in: Walz isn't the only Minnesotan with a prominent role in Chicago. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan gavel in the convention tonight as one of four co-chairs, the DNCC announced yesterday.
The state's delegation will also be seated near the front of United Center — a privilege usually reserved for more competitive states.
What we're watching: Minnesota's 11-member bloc of "uncommitted" delegates — those representing Democrats who chose no candidate in the presidential primary to protest the administration's handling of the war in Gaza — is the largest of any state.
Party leaders have worked for months to smooth out tensions behind the scenes, in hopes of avoiding disruptions during the convention itself.
Supporters of the uncommitted movement have planned large protests outside the event.
