San Francisco is No. 2 most expensive U.S. city for car commuters

San Francisco is the second-most expensive city in the U.S. for commuting by car, trailing only New York, per a new analysis from the Veteran resource website Vettory.

• The analysis looked at a typical 13.4-mile one-way commute over 250 workdays across America's largest cities.
• The study estimates a standard drive-to-work commute costs $5,520 a year in the city, factoring in fuel and a year of downtown parking.

🚆 The findings also reinforce a familiar Bay Area reality: driving comes at a premium. Vettory found public transit was the cheaper option in every city analyzed, with the gap reaching thousands of dollars in some places.
