With tens of thousands of people expected to arrive in the Bay Area for the Super Bowl next week, it's time to map out which streets to avoid.
Why it matters: No one likes getting stuck in traffic, especially when we already lose way too much time to it.
State of play: Several venues in San Francisco are hosting NFL-sponsored events in the week leading up to Super Bowl Sunday.
🏢 Moscone Center/Yerba Buena: Howard Street from 3rd Street to 4th Street (Jan. 30-Feb. 10).
- Minna Street from 4th Street to the InterContinental valet (Jan. 31-Feb. 10).
- 4th Street from Market Street to Folsom Street (Jan. 31-Feb. 10).
- Mission Street from 5th Street to 3rd Street (Feb. 1-9).
- Jessie Street from Mission Street to 4th Street (Feb. 1-9).
- Minna Street from 3rd Street to New Montgomery Street (Feb. 5-9).
⛪️ Grace Cathedral: Taylor Street from Sacramento Street to California Street (Feb. 5-7).
- Cushman Street from Sacramento Street to California Street (Feb. 6-7).
🏰 Palace of Fine Arts: Bay Street lanes (Feb. 5).
🏣 The Pearl: 19th Street from 3rd Street to halfway up the block toward Tennessee Street (Feb. 1-9).
🏛️ The Hibernia: Jones Street from McAllister Street to Golden Gate Avenue (Feb. 6-8).
Other impacted locations include SFMOMA, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and Marriot Marquis in SoMa.
If you're traveling south for Super Bowl activities, beware of road closures near Levi's Stadium.
- Stars and Stripes Drive, including the ramp from Tasman Drive, is already closed and will remain so through Feb. 22.
- Tasman Drive will no longer be open to traffic between Great America Parkway and Calle Del Sol starting Wednesday, Jan. 28.
- Great America Parkway, between Bunker Hill Lane and Patrick Henry Drive, will fully shut down on Super Bowl Sunday. Old Ironside and Old Glory Lane will also be closed.
What to expect: Highway 101 and Interstate 280 will likely see traffic disruptions throughout the week with people driving between San Francisco and Santa Clara for Super Bowl activities.
- Dedicated zones for pickup and drop-off near Levi's Stadium will be accessible on taxi and rideshare apps.
The big picture: To accommodate the influx of visitors, BART will run long trains during Super Bowl Week, deploy extra staff and security and install additional directional signs at stations to help new riders.
- Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will increase the frequency of bus and light-rail services on Super Bowl Sunday, up to two hours after the game. The Orange line from Mountain View to Great America will run every 10 minutes before the game while other light rail lines will run every 20 minutes.
- Caltrain will operate regular weekend services and is encouraging passengers to transfer to and from VTA services at Mountain View.
