Gird your loins, fresh Dungeness crab sales have begun.
State of play: Permitted crabbers have been able to sell directly to consumers from their boats along Fisherman's Wharf since 2021. The highly anticipated event draws long lines every year, with some San Franciscans waiting for hours for a chance to take home a fresh crab.
To find real-time updates from individual fishers, including sales hours and locations, check the FishLine mobile app or Facebook and Instagram.
The intrigue: The Port of San Francisco is also launching a new pop-up fish market that will offer pre-cut, pre-packaged fish 8am-2pm every Saturday for the next three months, featuring a rotating selection of black cod, rockfish, halibut and more — all caught by local fishers.
Bonus: There will be crab cooked on site from off-the-boat sales starting this Saturday.
The market is located at 101 Al Scoma Way, adjacent to the Wharf J9 and off-the-boat sales.
